Description

Dino-Thaler-Series (12.) - Ornithomimus Velox
3 Euro - Uncirculated

  • 12th and final Issue of the Dino-Thaler-Series
  • Mintage 65,000 pieces
  • The Ornithomimus Velox glows in the dark !

The twelfth and final issue of the 12-part 3 Euro Dino Thaler Series of the Austrian Mint is dedicated to the Ornithomimus Velox. A special feature of the 12-part series is that the motive is highlighted in color and printed with fluorescent colors, so that the dinosaurs glows in the dark. Each coin in the series is dedicated to a prehistoric behemoth and has a denomination of 3 Euro. The motive of the final issue shows a colored image of an Ornithomimus Velox in the middle of a primeval landscape. A Nasutoceratops appears in the background. The inscription "ORNITHOMIMUS 2022" completes the design. The reverse of the 3 Euro coin shows silhouettes of all already issued motives of the series. Furthermore, the inscriptions "Republik Österreich" and "3 Euro" are included in the design.

The Ornithomimus Velox lived about 72 to 66 million years ago in the late Upper Cretaceous in what is now North America. It is considered a rather slender dinosaur with a relatively small head and a very long neck. The Ornithomimus Velox belongs to the genus of dinosaurs from the group Ornithomimosauria and possessed a total length of about 3 to 4 meters with a body weight estimated at 150 kilograms. Most striking is its lower leg, which is significantly longer than its thigh, and the elongated metatarsals. Both of these features helped the Velox reach its famous top speed of 60 to 80 km/h. The 3 euro dino thaler coin is delivered loose. Separately, a collector's album for the Dino-Taler series for all 12 coins of the series can be purchased.
