The gold coin in color was issued in honor of the 50th anniversary of the significant image "Earth Blue Marble" and the Apollo missions. In 1972 an inspired snapshot of the Earth was taken on a whim from 29,000 km away by the crew of the last manned Apollo mission, Apollo 17. The image remains legendary to this day. The coin was struck from one ounce of gold in proof quality and is limited to only 150 pieces worldwide. The motive shows the legendary image as well as two astronauts and a lunar module. In the background is the starry night sky. The reverse shows the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II with the inscriptions "100 DOLLARS", "NIUE," "2022," "1 OZ 9999 GOLD" and "ELIZABETH II." The limited Earth Blue Marble anniversary edition is delivered in the original box including a numbered certificate of authenticity.
