The first issue of the new The Lord of the Rings™ Classic series features Sauron™. The coin was struck by the New Zealand Mint from one ounce of 99.9% silver in proof quality and provided with a partial 24 carat gold plating. The design depicts the dark ruler of Mordor™ as well as the tower Barad-dûr™. The One Ring is in the foreground of the motive - it has been partially gilded for a particularly authentic look. The ring was forged by Sauron™ in the fire of Mount Doom and possessed the power to corrupt its wearer and bring him to his doom. The ring poem engraved on the ring in Elvish embossing is also clearly visible. The reverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the denomination and the year of issue. The gilded Lord of the Rings™ - Sauron™ silver proof coin is delivered in the original wooden box and an illustrated Lord of the Rings™ packaging, including a numbered certificate of authenticity.
