The final release in the exclusive Earth and Beyond Series of the Royal Australian Mint showcases the majesty of our galaxy - the Milky Way. The limited coin was struck from one ounce of 99.9% silver in proof quality. The domed side features a colorful image of the cosmic spectacle we know as the "Milky Way". The convex shape and the unique cosmic color print add depth to the coin, making it look very realistic. The colorful Milky Way galaxy is surrounded by a silver ring with stars, planets and the Earth, as well as the inscription "2021 THE EARTH AND BEYOND - THE MILKY WAY" and "FIVE DOLLARS". The reverse shows the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II as well as the denomination, weight and fineness. The Milky Way is one of trillions of galaxies and is the galaxy that is home to our solar system with planet Earth. The spiral galaxy, which appears to the observer like a milky band in the night sky, consists of an estimated 100 to 400 billion stars and is about 13.6 billion years old. Our home galaxy has a diameter of up to 200,000 light years. Our solar system is positioned quite far out, about 26,000 light-years from the center of the Milky Way, where dust, gas and stars are centered in the galaxy's hot, bright core. The center, known as the bulge, is not visible by us optically due to dark clouds and interstellar matter - but it is still worth taking a look at the night sky, because with its open star clusters and dense nebulae, the Milky Way always offers the observer a breathtaking sight. The dome-shaped Earth and Beyond silver proof coin is delivered in the original box including a certificate of authenticity from the Royal Australian Mint.
