The tenth issue of the successful animal-thaler-series from Austria is dedicated to the turtle. The outstanding special feature of this twelve-part series is that the animals which are shown on the coins all become nocturnal. The animal motive is highlighted in color and printed with fluorescent colors, so the animals glow in the dark. The motive of this issue features a turtle surrounded by water, fish, algae and shells. The obverse of the 3 Euro coin features the silhouettes of all 12 animals in the series − the bat, tiger, crocodile, kingfisher, wolf, parrot, shark, owl, frog, turtle, otter and crayfish − with various types of vegetation, stars, the moon and a wolf’s paw print. The mintage of this special coin is limited to 50,000 pieces.
