The Premium bullion coin is the first issue of the new series Wildflowers of Australia and shows the heraldic flower of the state of New South Wales - the Waratah (Telopea speciosissima). The motive features three Waratah flowers and the denomination "100 DOLLARS". The reverse depicts the stages of development of the Waratah flower from bud to flower. Amidst the circular flowers is the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The weight and fineness of the coin are also included in the design. The coin was struck by the Royal Australian Mint from one ounce of 99.99% pure gold with a mintage of only 5,000 pieces worldwide.
The Waratah is one of the most famous plants native to Australia. The most striking feature of the iconic Australian bush flower is its crimson flower head, which consists of up to 240 individual flowers and can reach a diameter of up to 15 cm. The fascinating bloom can be admired over a period of about six weeks in spring. The magnificent plant, whose distribution area is endemically restricted to a radius of about 200 km around Sydney, can reach a growth height of up to 3 m and prefers sandy soils. The limited gold bullion coin is delivered in a protective capsule.
