The official coronation of a monarch is a historic event with thousands of years of tradition. In 2023, King Charles III was crowned, anointed, blessed and consecrated by the Archbishop of Canterbury in Westminster Abbey. The church has been the place where coronations have been held since 1066. Since the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022, her son has assumed the regency and holds the title of "King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" - while the actual coronation ceremonies took place later on May 6th, 2023.
