The series British Music Legends celebrates the music legends of Great Britain. The third issue is dedicated to David Bowie, an icon of pop history. Born as David Robert Jones on January 8, 1947, David Bowie grew up in rather humble circumstances. After initial musical attempts were not crowned with success, the song "Space Oddity" published in 1969 attracted public attention for the first time - in 1972 he finally achieved his breakthrough. With around 140 million records sold, David Bowie is one of the most influential artists of our time. The exceptional British musician has polarized like no other and is particularly known for the embodiment of his alter ego "Ziggy Stardust". In addition to "Space Oddity", the productions "Sound and Vision", "Let's Dance", "Life on Mars?" and the so-called Berlin trilogy "Heroes", "Low" and "Lodger" are also among his greatest hits. On January 10, 2016 - two days after his 69th birthday and the release of the album "Blackstar" - David Bowie succumbed to cancer. The motive of the coin depicts a portrait of David Bowie against the background of a lightning from the Aladdin Sane era. Additionally, the design includes numerous stars and the word "BOWIE" - his trademark. The reverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II and the denomination "100 Pounds". The limited premium bullion coin was struck by the Royal Mint from one ounce of 99.99% pure gold and is delivered in a protective capsule.
