The Australian Kookaburra is one of the most famous silver coin classics, meanwhile also issued as Kookaburra gold coin. The bullion coin has been minted since 1990 in various weight units and with annually changing motives. The 2024 issue was struck by the Perth Mint from a 1/10 ounce of 99.99% pure gold and features a detailed depiction of a kookaburra flying over a gorge. It holds a captured snake in its claws. The inscription "KOOKABURRA", the mintmark "P125" for the 125th anniversary of the Perth Mint and the year of issue, weight and fineness of the coin complete the design. For the first time, the reverse shows the Dan Thorne portrait of King Charles III, as well as the denomination. The kookaburra is the largest member of the kingfisher family and the national bird of Australia. It is also called "laughing Hans" in German. It owes this name to its loud call, which is comparable to human laughter, and which it prefers to sound in the early morning and late evening. The limited Kookaburra gold bullion coin is delivered in a protective capsule.
