The sixth issue of the Royal Australian Mint's new Lunar series was minted from one ounce of 99.9% pure gold and is dedicated to the Year of the Snake. The snake is the sixth animal in the Chinese zodiac calendar. The sixth issue in the Lunar Series, which spans 12 years, features a detailed image of a snake. It is surrounded by bamboo, which is traditionally regarded as a symbol of integrity. The motive is complemented by the Chinese character for “snake”, as well as the mintmark “YEAR OF THE SNAKE” and details of the coin's fineness and weight. The reverse shows the lunar calendar wheel with all 12 animals and in the center the Dan Thorne portrait of King Charles III as well as the face value and the year of issue.
