The limited Australian Koala Gold coin features one of Australia's most popular marsupials. Besides the kangaroo, the koala also represents the most famous symbol of Australia. The coin is the first Australian Koala issue from the Perth Mint to be minted from one ounce of 99.99% pure gold in proof quality and additionally colored. The motive features a koala on a gum tree branch. The inscription "KOALA", the year of issue, the weight and fineness of the coin and the mintmark "P" of the Perth Mint are also included in the design. The reverse shows the Dan Thorne portrait of King Charles III as well as the denomination "100 DOLLARS".

Together with the kangaroo, the koala is one of the most iconic representatives of Australian wildlife and a beloved symbol of the continent thanks to its endearing appearance. At first glance, koalas may appear to be solitary creatures. Yet, a closer look reveals that they actually live within a well-defined social structure. Each individual occupies its own territory, complete with specific trees for feeding and resting. Their diet consists exclusively of eucalyptus leaves, which are low in nutrients. Despite this modest fare, koalas are remarkably selective and feed on only a few of the roughly 600 eucalyptus species found across Australia.
