This strictly limited gold coin features the new 2025 Australian Koala Design. The coin was struck by the Perth Mint from 5 ounces of 99.99% pure gold in proof quality. Since 2014, the Perth Mint releases its popular Koala motive as a 5 ounce gold coin. With a micro-mintage of only 50 pieces worldwide, the coin is only available in extremely limited quantities. Along with the kangaroo, the koala is the most familiar representative of the Australian fauna and one of the most popular symbols of Australia.

The motive of the 2025 issue features a koala on a gum tree branch. The inscription "KOALA", the year of issue, the weight and fineness of the coin and the mintmark "P" of the Perth Mint are also included in the design. The reverse shows the Dan Thorne portrait of King Charles III as well as the denomination "500 DOLLARS". At first glance, koalas may appear to be solitary animals. However, closer observation reveals that they live within a well-organized social structure. Each koala maintains its own territory, which includes specific trees for feeding and resting. Their diet consists almost exclusively of eucalyptus leaves - and even then, they are highly selective. Out of the approximately 600 eucalyptus species native to Australia, only a small number are suitable as food for koalas. These leaves are low in nutrients, which is one reason why koalas spend most of their day resting. The rare 5 Oz Koala Gold Coin is delivered in the original wooden box including a numbered certificate of authenticity from the Perth Mint.
