This strictly limited gold coin features the new 2021 Australian Koala Design. The coin was struck by the Perth Mint from 5 ounces of 99.99% pure gold in proof quality. Since 2014, the Perth Mint releases its popular Koala motive as a 5 ounce gold coin. With a micro-mintage of only 50 pieces worldwide, the coin is only available in extremely limited quantities. Along with the kangaroo, the koala is the most familiar representative of the Australian fauna and one of the most popular symbols of Australia. The motive of the 2021 edition shows a sleepy koala nestled between the branches of an eucalyptus tree. The reverse features the Jody Clark portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the denomination "500 DOLLARS" and the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II" and "AUSTRALIA". On the first view koalas seem to be loners. Only on closer observation is it possible to see that they live in a stable social system. Each animal has its own territory. In it there are solid food and sleeping trees. Koalas eat only the nutrient-poor leaves of the eucalyptus tree. They are still very fussy. Of the approximately 600 eucalyptus species in Australia, they accept only a very small number as food.
