The Australian Kookaburra is one of the most famous silver coin classics, meanwhile also issued as Kookaburra gold coin. This 2025 issue is the fifth 1/4 Oz Kookaburra gold proof coin, which also celebrates the 35th anniversary of the Kookaburra series. The motive features a detailed depiction of a Kookaburra amid stylized sunbeams as well as a privy mark, which also shows a Kookaburra. The inscription “KOOKABURRA”, the Perth Mint's traditional “P” mintmark and details of the year of issue, weight and fineness complete the design. The reverse shows the Dan Thorne effigy of King Charles III and the denomination.

The Kookaburra is the largest member of the kingfisher family and the national bird of Australia. It is also called "laughing Hans" in German. It owes this name to its loud call, which is comparable to human laughter, and which it prefers to sound in the early morning and late evening. The mintage is limited to only 500 pieces worldwide.
