This strictly limited Wedge-tailed Eagle bimetal coin was struck by the Perth Mint from a 3/4 ounce of 99.99% pure gold and a 3/4 ounce of 99.95% pure platinum. The coin is dedicated to Australia's largest bird of prey, the Wedge-tailed Eagle. The design for the motive of this coin of the Australian Perth Mint was for the third time created by the famous sculptor and engraver John M. Mercanti. The pure gold centerpiece of the coin depicts a mother wedge-tailed eagle looking down at her young chick. Hovering above them is the father in full flight with the wedge-tailed eagle's characteristic tail and magnificent wingspan. The centerpiece also includes the gold weight and the fineness. The platinum border features the inscription 'AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE', the 2018 year of issue, the platinum weight and fineness. The reverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as well as the monetary denomination. The rare Wedge-Tailed Eagle bimetal proof coin is delivered in the original wooden box including a numbered certificate of authenticity from the Perth Mint.
