The 2024 edition of the Wedge-Tailed Eagle was struck by the Perth Mint from 1 kilo of 99.99% pure gold in reverse proof quality. It is the ninth design by the famous US Mint engraver John M. Mercanti and celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Wedge-Tailed Eagle. The motive of the ultra high relief gold coin shows a soaring wedge-tailed eagle - the largest bird of prey in Australia - with outstretched wings against a patterned background and stylized sunbeams. The design is framed by the inscriptions "AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE, "10th ANNIVERSARY" and "2024 1 KILO 9999 GOLD". The traditional mintmark "P" of the Perth Mint is also included in the design. The reverse shows the effigy of King Charles III as well as the denomination.

The Wedge-Tailed Eagle is one of the biggest eagles in the world. Its wings measure a wingspan of up to 2.7 meters. The impressive animal is mostly native to Australia, Tasmania and southern Papua New Guinea and feeds mainly on reptiles and small mammals.
