The bimetal coin is dedicated to Australia's largest and most famous bird of prey, the wedge-tailed eagle. The motive of the coin depicts a magnificent wedge-tailed eagle that pounces on its prey during the hunt. The depiction of the eagle extends to the pure platinum rim. With a wingspan of up to 2.7 meters, the wedge-tailed eagle is one of the largest eagles in the world. One of the bird's outstanding physical characteristics is the wedge-shaped tail. The design for the motive of this wedge-tailed eagle coin of the Australian Perth Mint was created by the famous sculptor and engraver John M. Mercanti. The reverse depicts the Jody Clark portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as well as the denomination.
