The 2022 edition of the Wedge-Tailed Eagle is the seventh design by the famous engraver John M. Mercanti. The motive of the Ultra High Relief gold coin depicts a close-up of the head of a Wedge-Tailed Eagle - Australia's largest bird of prey. The detailed design highlights the eagle's plumage, eyes and large, hooked beak. The motive is framed by the inscriptions "AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE" and "2022 1oz 9999 GOLD". The traditional mintmark "P" of the Perth Mint is also included in the design. The reverse shows the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II as well as the denominaton. The Wedge-Tailed Eagle is one of the biggest eagles in the world. Its impressive wings measure a wingspan of up to 2.7 meters.
