This issue was struck by the Royal Australian Mint from 1 Oz of 99.99% gold in proof quality and is dedicated to the Sydney Opera House. The motive depicts the iconic Sydney Opera House, as viewed from the west. The inscriptions "Sydney Opera House" and the logo of the 50th Anniversary complete the design. The reverse shows the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II as well as year of issue and the inscription "AUSTRALIA".

The Sydney Opera House was built on the edge of Sydney Harbour and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a masterpiece of architecture and one of the most famous buildings in the world.
