This gold coin bears the title The Outback and was issued by The Perth Mint. Struck from one ounce of 99.99% pure gold in proof quality, this coin forms part of the Wonders of Australia Series, which celebrates iconic landscapes and natural wonders of the Australian continent. The focus of this issue is the Australian Outback, one of the most impressive and culturally significant regions in the world. The elaborately designed motive features a variety of typical Australian animal species arranged in a circular composition around a central opal insert. Depicted are, among others, a dingo, a python, a monitor lizard, two echidnas, a blue tongue lizard, two desert tree frogs, a rock wallaby and two emus. The design is complemented by landscape elements of the Outback, the sun with radiating beams, and the mint mark “P” of The Perth Mint. Also included in the design are the indications of weight, fineness and year of issue. The reverse of the coin shows the portrait of King Charles III. together with the inscription “AUSTRALIA” and the denomination.
