The 5 oz gold coin is dedicated to one of Canada's most powerful birds of prey - the peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus). The coin was struck by the Royal Canadian Mint from an impressive 5 ounces of 99.99% pure gold and features a depiction of a peregrine falcon in flight, poised to seize its prey. A member of the falcon family, the bird is found almost everywhere on the planet with numerous subspecies and is particularly known for its spectacular flight maneuvers. When hunting, it can reach a top speed of more than 300 km/h, making it the fastest animal in the world. Also included in the design are details of weight, fineness, denomination, year of issue and country of issue. The reverse features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The mintage of the first gold coin from the series "Birds of Prey" is strictly limited to only 99 pieces worldwide. The coin is delivered in the original box including a numbered certificate of authenticity.
