Reaching outward from the strong, firmly rooted tree, the sugar maple leaf (Acer saccharum) is a universally recognized token of all things Canadian. Magnificently captured here on this 5 oz pure gold coin, the maple leaf’s resilience and distinctive appearance make it a fitting ambassador to the world, but it also reminds of the natural beauty of Canada. On the reverse, Canadian artist Margaret Best presents a timeless portrait of a true Canadian icon.
