With this 2021 Peace Dollar Coin struck from one ounce of 99.999% finest gold in Reverse Proof, the Royal Canadian Mint recalls the common vision of peace and freedom. The motive features the profile of Lady Peace, whose head is crowned by a wreath of maple leaves. The portrait is surrounded by the inscription "PAX 2021" and the Canadian national motto "A MARI USQUE AD MARE" (From Sea to Sea). The Latin word "PAX" (engl.: peace) was also engraved on the edge. The reverse shows the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. The inscriptions "ELIZABETH II", "CANADA", "D.G.REGINA" and the denomination "200 DOLLARS" are also included in the design. The edition is limited to only 500 pieces worldwide. The very first Peace Dollar was struck by the US-American mint in 1921 to commemorate the peace after World War I. The Canadian Secretary of State Lester B. Pearson finally organized the first UN peacekeeping force in 1957. These and other efforts not only earned him the Nobel Peace Prize - they also helped to consolidate Canada's reputation as a peacekeeping and peace-loving nation.
