With this 2023 Peace Dollar Coin struck from one ounce of 99.99% pure gold, the Royal Canadian Mint recalls the common vision of peace and freedom. The coin was finished with rose gold and features the profile of Lady Peace, whose head is crowned by a wreath of maple leaves. The portrait is surrounded by the inscription "PAX 2023" and the Canadian national motto "A MARI USQUE AD MARE" (From Sea to Sea). The reverse shows the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. The inscriptions "ELIZABETH II", "CANADA", "D.G.REGINA" and the denomination "200 DOLLARS" are also included in the design. The ultra high relief coin has been given a pulsating effect, which is achieved by micro-engineered, precision engraved mirrors in the sub-millimeter scale. These reflect the light and create a sense of dynamic movement. The very first Peace Dollar was struck by the US-American Mint in 1921 to commemorate the peace after World War I. The Canadian Secretary of State Lester B. Pearson finally organized the first UN peacekeeping force in 1957. These and other efforts not only earned him the Nobel Peace Prize - they also helped to consolidate Canada's reputation as a peacekeeping and peace-loving nation.
The mintage of these coins was certified PR-70 by PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Services). The PCGS grading scale is based on the numbers 1-70 of the Sheldon scale and is the guideline for the coins to be graded. Thus, the PCGS standard stands for the reliable protection and security of the collector as well as for the highest precision in determining the value of coins. The strictly limited Peace Dollar gold coin with rose gold plating is delivered in a certified PCGS slab and also with the original box and certificate from the Royal Canadian Mint.
*Only 500 coins were struck in total, this coin is one of only 5 pieces in the PCGS PR-70 DCAM grade.
