The official coronation of a monarch is a historic event with thousands of years of tradition. In 2023, King Charles III will be crowned, anointed, blessed and consecrated by the Archbishop of Canterbury in Westminster Abbey. The church has been the place where coronations have been held since 1066. Since the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022, her son has assumed the regency and holds the title of "King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" - but the coronation ceremonies will not take place until May 6, 2023. On this day, Camilla will also be crowned as Queen Consort in a similar ceremony.
The gold coin commemorates this special event. Struck from 0.5 gram of 99.99% pure gold in proof quality, the motive features the portraits of Charles and Camilla in profile. They are facing each other and appear to be looking at each other. Above the two portraits is a crown and the inscription "CORONATION OF CHARLES III & CAMILLA", below is the date of the coronation "MAY 6 2023". The reverse shows the coat of arms of the Democratic Republic of Congo as well as the denomination, year of issue, weight and fineness of the coin. Limited to 2,000 pieces worldwide, the gold coin celebrating the coronation of King Charles III and Camilla is delivered in a protective capsule.
