In collaboration with the famous comic author Romain Hugault, the Monnaie de Paris commemorates aircraft that have made history with the series "Aviation and History". This coin struck from a 1/4 ounce gold is dedicated to the P-51 Mustang fighter - an iconic World War II aircraft developed in the 1940s. The P-51 was produced in large numbers and was primarily used as a long-range escort fighter in the Allied Bombing Units. The motive of the euro gold coin features a P-51 Mustang in flight. In the background the explosion of a bomb is indicated. The reverse shows two pilots, symbolizing military and civil activity, as well as outlines of various types of aircraft. The inscription "L'AVIATION & L'HISTOIRE" (engl.: "Aviation and History") is also included in the design. The strictly limited commemorative coin from France is delivered in the original box including a certificate of authenticity.
