The gold coin is dedicated to the tragic shipwreck of the RMS Titanic. The motive has a precious platinum plating and features a depiction of the cruise liner as it sinks in the Atlantic. Behind the ship rises the iceberg with which the Titanic collided. Three crewed lifeboats can be seen in the foreground. The design also includes the inscription “RMS TITANIC” and the coordinates of the Titanic's final resting place. The reverse shows the portrait of King Charles III as well as details of the weight, fineness, denomination and year of issue. The Titanic, which at 269 meters was the largest passenger ship in the world at the time, collided with an iceberg on the night of 14 to 15 April 1912 and sank within the following two hours. More than 1,500 people lost their lives, while around 700 passengers survived the disaster.
