The sixth and final edition of the strictly limited STAR WARS™ Ships Series from the New Zealand Mint is dedicated to the iconic Starfighter Prototype TIE Advanced x1™. The motive of the coin struck from 99.99% pure gold shows a detailed representation of the TIE Advanced x1™, which didn't enter mass production because of its high production costs. However, Darth Vader used the prototype as his personal space fighter. This ship was one of several TIE prototypes used by the Galactic Empire between the Battle of Yavin and the death of Emperor Palpatine at Endor. The TIE Advanced x1™ turned out to be one of the most successful prototypes, which is why many of its features were later incorporated into the TIE Interceptor™ and the TIE Avenger™. The TIE Advanced x1™ resembled a normal TIE fighter, but had a flatter profile and angled wings, which allowed for better maneuverability and higher speeds.
