The 2021 edition of the Wedge-Tailed Eagle is the sixth design from the famous engraver John M. Mercanti, the 12th Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint. Struck from 1 ounce 99,95% platinum, it is the first platinum High Relief coin in the series. The motive features a swooping Wedge-Tailed Eagle with a snake in its talons. In addition the inscription "AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE", the year of issue, the fineness and the traditional Mintmark "P" of the Perth Mint are included in the design. The reverse shows the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as well as the denomination. The Wedge-Tailed eagle is one of the biggest eagles in the world. His impressive wings have a wingspan of up to 2.7 meters. The impressive animal is predominantly native to Australia, Tasmania and southern Papa New Guinea.
