The second issue in this series is dedicated to the king of animals - the Lion. The Big Five are synonymous with South African wildlife. These magnificent animals have been linked to South African currency since 1988 when they were first used on the South African banknote range. The so-called "Big 5" are the African Elephant, the Lion, the Rhino, the Leopard and the Buffalo. The proof coin made of one ounce 99,95% platinum features the impressive head of an African Lion, under it the South Africa‘s coat of arms and the inscriptions‚ ‚SOUTH AFRICA‘, and ‚BIG FIVE 2019‘. The reverse of the coin features two halves of a lion portrait so that when two of the coins are placed next to each other, a complete close-up portrait of a lion is seen; by placing many of these coins next to each other, a herd of lions can be seen. The denomination TWENTY RAND, the weight 1OZ and the fineness Pt 999,5 are shown in a circle at the center. This strictly limited Big Five Lion platinum coin comes in the original box with a certificate of authenticity from the South African Mint.
