This set consisting of three premium silver bullion coins includes the first, second and third issue of the Australia Zoo Series of the Royal Australian Mint. Each of the coins included in the set was struck from one ounce of 99.9% silver in uncirculated quality. The three coins are dedicated to the Sumatran Elephant, the Cheetah and the Sumatran Tiger.
The motive of the Sumatran Elephant coin shows four adult elephants and emphasizes their impressive power and size. Above the elephants is the inscription "AUSTRALIA ZOO - SUMATRAN ELEPHANT". The weight and fineness are also included in the design. The elephants depicted are four individuals from the Australia Zoo named Christina, Megawati, Widya and Raflesia. The Sumatran elephant is the smallest subspecies of the Asian elephant. Its natural habitat is endemic to the Indonesian island of Sumatra. It is considered critically endangered and is classified as endangered on the IUCN Red List.
The motive of the Cheetah coin shows a cheetah in the run. It is surrounded by the inscriptions "AUSTRALIA ZOO" and "CHEETAH" as well as the weight and fineness. The design was inspired by photos taken by the son of the famous documentary filmmaker Steve Irwin, at the Australia Zoo. The cheetah is the fastest land animal in the world - its slender body and long, thin legs are particularly suited to high acceleration. Despite its size, the cheetah does not belong to the subspecies of big cats, such as lion and tiger, but to the small cats. Visually, it is distinguished by its golden yellow fur with small black spots as well as black tear marks under the eyes.
The Sumatran Tiger coin shows a Sumatran tiger walking through water. It is surrounded by the inscriptions "AUSTRALIA ZOO" and "SUMATRAN TIGER" as well as the weight and fineness of the coin. The Sumatran tiger is the smallest still living subspecies of the tiger and lives exclusively on the island of Sumatra (Indonesia). In addition to its smaller body size, the Sumatran tiger is also distinguished from other tiger species by its very strong fur base color. The reverse of each coin features the Jody Clark portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. In addition, the denomination "1 DOLLAR", the respective year of issue and the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II" and "AUSTRALIA" are included in the design. The coins included in the limited Australia Zoo set consisting of three silver coins - Elephant - Cheetah - Tiger will be delivered in protective coin capsules.
