The fifth issue in the Australia Zoo Series from the Royal Australian Mint was struck from one ounce of silver and is dedicated to the Giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis). The motive features a detailed depiction of a giraffe with a young animal in the African savannah. A tree, the sun and mountains can be seen in the background. Between the two giraffes is the inscription "AUSTRALIA ZOO - GIRAFFE". The weight and fineness complete the design. The reverse features the Dan Thorne portrait of King Charles III as well as the denomination "1 DOLLAR" and the inscriptions "CHARLES III" and "AUSTRALIA 2024".

Giraffes are native to the savannah south of the Sahara and the grassy steppes of East and South Africa. They are characterized by their striking physique and their characteristic pattern, which varies from animal to animal. With a body height of between five and six meters and a weight of up to 1,300 kilograms, the spotted cloven-hoofed animals are the largest mammals living on land. Since 2016, giraffes have been listed as "endangered" on the International Red List, as the threat posed by hunters and poachers as well as the loss of habitat due to agriculture is a sad reality.
