The Perth Mint dedicates this premium bullion coin struck from one ounce of 99.99% pure silver to the Australian Emu. The motive features an adult emu watching over its three young chicks. The dry and barren landscape of the Australian outback can be seen in the background. In addition, the mintmark "P" of the Perth Mint, the occasion of issue "AUSTRALIAN EMU", the year "2023" as well as the weight and the fineness of the coin are included in the design. The reverse depicts the Jody Clark effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, supplemented with the dates of her reign, as well as the denomination "1 DOLLAR" and the issuing state "AUSTRALIA".

Like the ostrich and kiwi, the emu belongs to the so-called ratite family. Because they are very large and heavy, they are unable to fly, but can run enduringly and fast. Emus are at home all over Australia. These adaptable animals can reach an age of up to 20 years and feed mainly on grass, flowers, seeds, fruits and insects. In terms of height, the Australian emu is the second largest bird in the world after the ostrich. The mintage of this coin is limited to only 30,000 pieces worldwide.
