This 2023 Australian Emu coin from the Perth Mint was struck from one ounce of 99.99% pure silver in uncirculated quality. The motive in color features the head of an emu. In the background, a baby emu is depicted in a typical Australian landscape. In addition, the mintmark "P" of the Perth Mint, the occasion of issue "AUSTRALIAN EMU", the year "2023" as well as the weight and the fineness of the coin are included in the design. The reverse depicts the Jody Clark effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, supplemented with the dates of her reign, as well as the denomination "1 DOLLAR" and the issuing state "AUSTRALIA".

Like the ostrich and kiwi, the emu belongs to the so-called ratite family. Because they are very large and heavy, they are unable to fly, but can run enduringly and fast. Emus are at home all over Australia. These adaptable animals can reach an age of up to 20 years and feed mainly on grass, flowers, seeds, fruits and insects.
