The new issue of the Australian Lunar Series III of the Perth Mint is dedicated to the Year of the Dragon and is issued on the occasion of the ANA Money Expo 2024, which will take place in Chicago from August 6 to 10, 2024. The dragon is the fifth animal in the Chinese zodiac calendar. The colored issue of the 12-year Lunar III series features a golden dragon along with clouds and a flaming pearl as a symbol of wisdom. Also included in the design are the Chinese character for "dragon," the inscription "DRAGON 2024" and the Perth Mint's mintmark "P125," which refers to the 125th anniversary of the Australian mint. The reverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, supplemented with the years of her reign, as well as the denomination, weight and fineness.

The dragon is attributed with qualities such as reliability, self-confidence, courage and a strong willpower. People born under the sign of the Dragon in 2024, 2012, 2000, 1988, 1976, 1964, and every 12th year before are considered energetic, enthusiastic, and intelligent.
