The new release in the Australian Lunar Series III of the Perth Mint is dedicated to the Year of the Dragon. Following the rabbit, the dragon is the fifth animal in the Chinese Zodiac calendar. The fifth issue of the 12-year Lunar III series features a colored image of the mythical creature. Stylized waves and a flaming pearl surround the dragon. The design also includes the inscription "DRAGON 2024" and the mintmark "P125" signifying The Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary. A special feature of this edition is a Privy Mark of 1 gram of pure gold, which represents the Chinese character for "dragon". The reverse shows the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, supplemented with the dates of her reign, the denomination and fineness.
