The sixth issue of the annual World's Wildlife Series is dedicated to the Peregrine (Falco peregrinus). The design of the colored coin struck from 99.99% pure silver depicts a peregrine falcon in flight. Rugged rocks, trees and clouds can be seen in the background. The inscriptions "THE PEREGRINE" and "WORLD'S WILDLIFE" outline the design. The reverse features the coat of arms of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The peregrine falcon is the most widespread bird of prey in the world. The bird, which is around 40 cm tall, has been used as a brilliant falconry bird by nomads in Central Asia. After the peregrine falcon population declined drastically in the 1970s, intensive conservation measures were taken, which fortunately proved successful. There are now around 1200 pairs of peregrine falcons in Germany. Peregrine falcons mainly hunt other birds and are known for their rapid flight maneuvers - the bird of prey reaches a top speed of an impressive 250 km/h when hunting. The limited silver coin in color is delivered in a protective coin capsule.
