The fourth issue in the Prehistoric Life II series from the Congo is dedicated to the Carnotaurus. The colored motive of the coin struck from one ounce of 99.99% silver depicts two carnotauruses hunting four smaller dinosaurs in a primeval landscape. The inscriptions “PREHISTORIC LIFE”, “CARNOTAURUS”, “72 - 69.9 MIO YEARS BC” and the year of issue 2025 can be seen above the scene. The reverse depicts the coat of arms of the Democratic Republic of the Congo as well as the weight, fineness and denomination.
Carnotaurus was a bipedal carnivore from the Abelisauridae family and lived in the Cretaceous period in Argentina. The name “Carnotaurus” means “carnivorous bull” and refers both to its diet and to the two frontal horns that characterize the prehistoric predator and allow it to be clearly distinguished from other genera. Based on the only skeleton found to date, the body length of Carnotaurus is estimated at 8 to 9 meters. The limited Carnotaurus silver coin in color is delivered in a protective capsule.
