The ninth issue of the Series Prehistoric Life from the Congo is dedicated to the herbivore Parasaurolophus. The colored coin, struck from one ounce of 99.99% pure silver, features three Parasaurolophus in a primeval landscape, surrounded by other dinosaurs. Above the Parasaurolophus are the inscriptions "PREHISTORIC LIFE", "PARASAUROLOPHUS", "76 - 72 MIO YEARS BC" and the year of issue 2022. The reverse features the coat of arms of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Parasaurolophus belongs to the group of ornithopod dinosaurs Hadrosauridae and lived during the Upper Cretaceous, in what is now North America. The dinosaur is easily recognized by its backward bone comb and could reach a weight of up to 5 tons. Their unusual appearance, two long hind legs and two short front legs, helped them escape from predators and enemies. In addition, they possessed a great resemblance to ducks, due to the shape of their beak. Parasaurolophus were considered calm herbivores, whose biggest predators were the tyrannosaurus Gorgosaurus and the crocodile Deinosuchus. The limited Parasaurolophus silver coin in color is delivered in a protective capsule.
