The limited silver coin was struck from one ounce of 99.9% silver and is dedicated to the War elephant. The motive depicts a majestic war elephant in richly decorated battle armor. The reverse shows the coat of arms of the United Kingdom above the coat of arms of Gibraltar as well as the weight, fineness, denomination and year of issue. The tradition of the war elephant originated in India and other parts of Asia and later spread to Europe. Due to their more pronounced aggressiveness, mostly male animals were used for this purpose. Due to their colossal appearance, they were not only regarded as instruments of war, but also as symbols of victory, power and domination. The manned elephants carried huge howdahs on their backs, which were decorated with banners and fluttered in the wind, and so the war elephants went down in history as the living thrones of generals and kings.
