"The Fellowship of the Ring" is the first part of the successful film series and celebrated its world premiere in December 2001. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of The Lord of the Rings, the New Zealand Post has issued this Premium Silver Bullion Coin. The motive features a close-up of Gandalf the Grey™. In the brim of his hat, the phrase "A WIZARD IS NEVER LATE. NOR IS HE EARLY. HE ARRIVES PRECISELY WHEN HE MEANS TO" has been engraved. Additionally, the inscriptions "THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING", "20th ANNIVERSARY" and the denomination "ONE DOLLAR" are included in the design. The reverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II as well as the weight, fineness, year of issue and the inscription "MIDDLE EARTH". Gandalf the Grey™, also known as Gandalf Greyrock or Mithrandir, is one of the main characters in the Lord of the Rings universe. As an old friend of Bilo Baggins™, Gandalf™ recognized the Hobbit's magic ring as the One Ring. He charged his nephew Frodo Baggins™ with taking it to Rivendell, to the house of Lord Elrond, to decide the fate of the Ring in the Council of Middle-earth. As part of the Fellowship of the Ring, Gandalf™ accompanied them on their journey to destroy the One Ring in the fiery pits of Mount Doom. He fell in the battle against the Balrog™ of Morgoth in the mines of Moria, but later returned as "Gandalf the White™".
