With the release of the Big Five II Series, the South African Mint continues the success story of a coveted classic. Once again, the Series includes a total of five coins, all dedicated to South Africa's impressive wildlife. The animals known as the "Big Five" - Elephant - Lion - Buffalo - Rhino - Leopard - are considered emblems and ambassadors of this culturally rich country and represent the African fauna. This 2021 issue is the first 5 Oz silver Elephant ever released. The motive shows a detailed close-up of the head of an adult Elephant. The inscriptions "SOUTH AFRICA", "BIG FIVE 2021" and the South African coat of arms are also part of the design. The reverse shows two halves of an elephant's head. Placing two of these coins next to each other gives a full close-up portrait of an elephant. When several of these coins are placed next to each other, an entire herd of elephants appears. In the center, the denomination "FIVE RAND", the weight "5OZ" and the fineness "Ag 999" are shown. The African elephant (Loxodonta africana) is probably the largest and most impressive representative of the African animal world, which generally stands as a symbol of power and strength. The "gentle giant" is characterized by its excellent memory and a very pronounced social behavior. In the wild, the elephant can live up to 60 years - but to this day the threat from poachers remains great. The Big Five II Elephant 5 oz silver coin is limited to only 500 pieces worldwide and is delivered in the original wooden box including a numbered certificate of authenticity.
