The thrid release of the Owls Series is dedicated to the Whiskered Screech Owl. The motive of the 99.9% silver coin depicts an ornamented whiskered screech owl with outstretched wings surrounded by decorations at the edge. The inscriptions "OWLS" and "WHISKERED SCREECH OWL" are also included in the design. The reverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II along with the tuluma, the national symbol of Tokelau. Tuluma is a wooden fishing box used by the fishermen of Tokelau. The whiskered screech owl (Megascops trichopsis) is one of the smaller owls in its species, with a body size of about 18 cm. It belongs to the family of the actual owls and is found in three subspecies solely in North and Central America. They can be recognized by their either gray-brown or reddish plumage, as well as their yellow eyes and short, very inconspicuous feather ears. The whiskered screech owl is one of the nocturnal species of owls and feeds predominantly on insects. The Whiskered Screech Owl Premium Bullion Coin is delivered in a protective coin capsule.
