The first issue of the new Silver Eagle series "American Wildlife" is dedicated to the Alligator. The colored motive shows an image of an adult alligator with bared teeth. The lower edge of the coin features a section of the American flag and the year of issue 2022. Above the reptile is the inscription "THE ALLIGATOR". The reverse depicts the American bald eagle, the denomination "ONE DOLLAR" and the weight and fineness "1 OZ. FINE SILVER". The alligator (Alligatoridae) is solely found in America and the People's Republic of China, where it lives in a variety of waters that may be standing or flowing. The name of the animal originates from the Spanish word "el legarto" and it is translated to "lizard". Alligators have a life expectancy of up to ninety years, can reach a length of more than six meters and can weigh up to one ton. Due to increasing destruction of their natural habitats by humans and climate change, almost all species are now classified as critically endangered.
