Featured are an Australian tiger moth, a nightjar, a Christmas beetle, a marbled gecko, a spotted quoll, a night parrot, a Leadbeater's possum, a koala and a ghost bat. The design is complemented by a crescent moon, stars, Australian floral motives and the Perth Mint's “P” mintmark. Also included in the design are the year of issue 2026, the weight and the fineness. The reverse features the effigy of King Charles III designed by Dan Thorne, together with the inscription “AUSTRALIA” and the denomination of 1 dollar.

Australia, often referred to as the “Great Southern Land”, is renowned for its exceptional biodiversity and unique landscapes. Many of the animal species native to the country are endemic and found nowhere else on Earth. Numerous species retreat during the day and only become active after nightfall. The “Nocturnal” issue captures this hidden side of Australian wildlife and combines it with shimmering matrix opal, whose natural variations in color and pattern make each coin a unique individual piece. Limited to 5,000 pieces worldwide, the Great Southern Land - Nocturnal Matrix Opal 1 Oz Silver Coin in Proof quality is delivered in the original box including a numbered certificate of authenticity from the Perth Mint.
