The 5 Oz High Relief coin by the Perth Mint features the new 2021 Australian Koala Design and was gilded in 22-carat pink gold. The motive shows a sleepy koala nestled between the branches of an eucalyptus tree. The reverse features the Jody Clark portrait of Queen Elizabeth II and the inscriptions "8 DOLLARS", "ELIZABETH II" and "AUSTRALIA". Along with the kangaroo, the koala is the most familiar representative of the Australian fauna and one of the most popular symbols of Australia. On the first view, koalas seem to be loners. Only on closer observation is it possible to see that they live in a stable social system. Each animal has its own territory. In it there are solid food and sleeping trees. Koalas eat only the nutrient-poor leaves of the eucalyptus tree. They are still very fussy. Of the approximately 600 eucalyptus species in Australia, they accept only a very small number as food. The limited 5 Oz Koala gilded silver proof coin is delivered in the original box including a numbered certificate of authenticity.
