The 2023 issue of the Australian Kookaburra silver coin is again being released this year as a High Relief coin with a 24-carat gold plated motive. Depicted are two kookaburras perched on branches. They are surrounded by the Waratah flower, a native flower species of Australia and the emblem flower of the state of New South Wales. The outer ring of the coin has also been gilded, thus giving this coin a very unique look. The design also includes the inscription 'KOOKABURRA', the year of issue, the weight and fineness and the mint mark 'P' of the Perth Mint. The reverse shows the Jody Clark effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, supplemented with the dates of her reign, and the denomination "2 DOLLARS". The 2023 Kookaburra coin was struck by the Perth Mint from an ounce of 99.99% pure silver. The Kookaburra is the largest member of the kingfisher family and the national bird of Australia. It is also called "laughing Hans" in German. It owes this name to its loud call, which is comparable to human laughter, and which it prefers to sound in the early morning and late evening.
