This extraordinary Australian Kookaburra coin in high relief features one of Australia's most popular marsupials. Since 1990, the Perth Mint has struck the Kookaburra in different weight units and with annually changing designs. After the great success of the first issue in 2021, the Kookaburra coin is struck again this year, incused from 5 ounces of 99.99% pure silver in proof quality. The motive features a detailed depiction of a kookaburra flying over a gorge. It holds a captured snake in its claws. The inscription "KOOKABURRA", the mintmark "P125" for the 125th anniversary of the Perth Mint and the year of issue, weight and fineness of the coin complete the design. For the first time, the reverse shows the Dan Thorne portrait of King Charles III, as well as the denomination "8 DOLLARS".
The kookaburra is the largest member of the kingfisher family and the national bird of Australia. The 2024 Kookaburra incused 5 oz high relief silver coin is delivered in the original box including a numbered certificate of authenticity from the Perth Mint.
