The Australian Kookaburra is one of the best-known silver coin classics. Since 1990, the Kookaburra has been minted in various weight units and with an annually changing motive. This antique finish coin was struck from 2 ounces of 99.99% pure silver and bears the title Kaa Kaa. It refers to the name given to the large kingfisher by the indigenous people of Western Australia, the Nyoongar. The motive features a colorful depiction of a kookaburra based on an oil painting by Kevin Bynder of the Whadjuk-Yuet-Ballardong people. The design contains white elements that symbolize the white ochre with which the indigenous peoples painted themselves when they performed the Kookaburra dream dance. The background consists of colored dots in different shades of blue, representing the morning, day and evening sky. Green represents the leaves during the Djeran season (April/May) and brown during the Kambarang, Birak and Bunuru seasons (October/March). The design is completed by the mintmark "P125" indicating the 125th anniversary of the Perth Mint and the year of issue 2024. The reverse features the Dan Thorne effigy of King Charles III as well as the weight, fineness and denomination. The 2 oz Kookaburra Antique Finish silver coin in color is delivered in the original box including a numbered certificate of authenticity from the Perth Mint.
