The 2024 edition of the Wedge-Tailed Eagle was struck by the Perth Mint from one ounce of 99.99% pure silver in proof quality and appears this year with a 24-carat gold plated motive. It is the ninth design by the famous US Mint engraver John M. Mercanti, and celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Wedge-Tailed Eagle. The motive of the high relief silver coin shows a soaring wedge-tailed eagle - the largest bird of prey in Australia - with outstretched wings against a patterned background and stylized sunbeams. The design is framed by the inscriptions "AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE, "10th ANNIVERSARY" and "2024 1oz 9999 SILVER". The traditional mintmark "P" of the Perth Mint is also included in the design. The reverse shows the effigy of King Charles III as well as the denomination. The Wedge-Tailed eagle is one of the biggest eagles in the world. Its wings measure a wingspan of up to 2.7 meters. The impressive animal is mostly native to Australia, Tasmania and southern Papua New Guinea and feeds mainly on reptiles and small mammals. The gilded Wedge-Tailed Eagle 1 oz silver coin in high relief is delivered in the original box including a numbered certificate of authenticity from the Perth Mint.
